In this scenario which law firm in the above search results example do you think is going to get the phone call? If all other things are equal then of course the third result showing in the above example is going to get that call. And more importantly as a result of the name, this firm has the best chance of gaining the client. All three firms were on the first page of Google but only “Criminal Defense Lawyer John Doe” gained the client. it’s a scenario we’ve been seeing for years. And for the last three years i’ve been pushing my own clients to rename their business. There simply is no reason to use a traditional law firm name. it’s not helping you gain any new clients! Instead take your preferred practice area and put it into your name. It might sound funny to you today. But in a few years you’re going to notice that all firms who are actually showing on the first page of Google will be incorporating this incredibly effective strategy. And the firms who don’t will be left behind.

As mentioned earlier– there are over 200 search ranking factors with Google. We’d rank the firm name as the top most influencing factor. But there is a right way to do it and a wrong way to do it.
